UT Quality/UT Quality USA servicesServices/API 1104 weld inspection
API 1104 sets the welding and inspection acceptance standard for new-construction pipeline work. UT Quality USA puts certified crews on the girth weld as pipe is strung, welded and lowered in, with automated ultrasonics or radiography matched to the project specification, so the quality record keeps pace with construction instead of trailing behind it.
Certified Level II and Level III technicians, methods qualified to API 1104 acceptance criteria.
AUT to a qualified procedure, or field RT and digital radiography, on mainline girth welds as the spread moves.
Radiographic and semi-automated UT inspection on tie-in welds, launcher and receiver piping, and above-ground station connections.
Inspection support during procedure and welder qualification testing, so welds meet API 1104 before production welding begins.
Re-inspection of repair welds to confirm the flaw was removed and the repair meets code before backfill.
Film RT and digital radiography are the traditional API 1104 methods. Digital delivers same-shift results, so the crew is not waiting on film development to keep moving down the spread.
API 1104 accepts AUT as an alternative to radiography when it is run to a qualified procedure, with an encoded record of every weld.
Annex A allows alternative, ECA-based (engineering critical assessment) acceptance criteria where the project specifies them. Encoded ultrasonic sizing supports that work.
API 1104 is the standard for welding pipelines and related facilities. It covers welding procedures and the acceptance criteria for weld inspection, and it governs most new-construction pipeline welding in the U.S.
Radiography (film RT and digital) is the traditional method. API 1104 also permits AUT as an alternative to radiography when run to a qualified procedure, and its Annex A allows ECA-based acceptance criteria where the project specifies them.
Yes. Crews inspect girth welds in the field as pipe goes into the ditch, with same-shift results on digital radiography and AUT.
Yes. Repair welds are re-inspected to confirm the flaw was removed and the repair meets code before backfill.
Technicians are certified Level I, II and III to our written practice under ASNT SNT-TC-1A / ANSI/ASNT CP-189, with Level III oversight of procedures and interpretation.
