UT Quality/UT Quality USA industriesIndustries/Fabrication & module shops
Work that leaves a shop is expected to arrive finished. UT Quality USA inspects spool, skid and module welding in the shop — the same methods, written practice and reporting the crews use in the field — so a rejectable weld is found at the fit-up bay and not at the tie-in.
The scope UT Quality USA crews are asked for on this work.
Shop girth and branch welds on carbon, alloy and stainless spools, inspected by radiography or by encoded phased array ultrasonics, to ASME B31.3 or API 1104 as the specification directs.
Process and utility piping, structural frames and equipment connections on skid-mounted and modular assemblies, inspected before the module ships.
Longitudinal and circumferential seams, nozzle and attachment welds, inspected to ASME Section VIII with Level III interpretation.
Shop structural welding inspected by MT, PT, UT and VT against AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria.
Automated ultrasonic testing, phased array and TOFD, semi-automated ultrasonics, radiography by film, computed, digital and real-time methods, and the four conventional methods — magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and visual testing — plus positive material identification. UT Quality’s automated ultrasonic system is proprietary, designed and built in-house.
Inspected and reported to the code your specification names: ASME Section VIII and Section IX, ASME B31.3, AWS D1.1, and API 1104 where the spool is destined for a pipeline system.
A shop can be inspected on a fixed schedule, so the useful measure is how quickly a result comes back and how clean the records are when the package ships. Level III review of procedures and interpretation is part of the service, and welder qualification testing can be run in the same visit.
Yes. The conventional and advanced methods are run in the shop and in the field by the same crews, to the same written practice.
Where the specification allows a volumetric method other than radiography, encoded phased array or TOFD can be used, and it removes the exclusion zone a radiographic shot imposes on a working shop.
Welder qualification tests are witnessed by our AWS CWI with Level III NDT interpretation of the coupon, in the shop or in the field.
Reporting follows the code and the specification, in a package an owner or an authorized inspector can audit later.
Technicians are certified Level I, II and III to our written practice under ASNT SNT-TC-1A / ANSI/ASNT CP-189, with Level III oversight of procedures and interpretation. UT Quality USA is a union operation.
