Chemical plants.Union nondestructive testing and weld inspection, UT Quality USA.

Chemical plants run a wider material list than most sites: alloy and stainless systems next to carbon steel, often in the same unit. UT Quality USA inspects the welding and verifies the alloy, with the technique qualified for the material before work starts.

What we inspect.

The scope UT Quality USA crews are asked for on this work.

Process piping

New and replacement welds inspected to ASME B31.3 by radiography or encoded ultrasonics, with MT and PT for surface and near-surface flaws.

Alloy & stainless systems

Liquid penetrant and ultrasonic inspection on austenitic stainless and alloy piping, with the technique and procedure qualified for the material.

Pressure vessels & exchangers

Shell, head, nozzle and attachment welds inspected to ASME Section VIII, with Level III interpretation.

Alloy verification (PMI)

Positive material identification confirming that the material installed is the material the specification calls for.

Methods, codes and crews.

Methods

Automated ultrasonic testing, phased array and TOFD, semi-automated ultrasonics, radiography by film, computed, digital and real-time methods, and the four conventional methods — magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and visual testing — plus positive material identification. UT Quality’s automated ultrasonic system is proprietary, designed and built in-house.

Codes and standards

Inspected and reported to the code your specification names: ASME B31.3 and Section VIII for construction, ASME Section IX for qualification, AWS D1.1 for structural steel, and inspection supporting API 570 and API 510 in-service programs.

How the work is staffed

Material control is the difference between a plant that runs and one that fails in service, and it is as much a documentation job as an inspection job. PMI, weld inspection and thickness data come back under one written practice, in a form an owner or an authorized inspector can audit later.

Questions.

Do you run positive material identification?

Yes. PMI is part of the conventional service: alloy verification and analysis confirming the material in the line matches the specification.

Can you inspect stainless and alloy welds?

Yes. Liquid penetrant and ultrasonic methods are used on austenitic stainless and alloy systems, with the technique qualified for the material before work starts.

Do you support API 570 and API 510 programs?

Yes, as the NDT contractor supplying thickness surveys, corrosion mapping and weld inspection to the owner or the authorized inspector running the program.

Are surface and volumetric methods available on one job?

Yes. The same mobilization that brings radiography or encoded ultrasonics can bring MT, PT, UT and VT.

Technicians are certified Level I, II and III to our written practice under ASNT SNT-TC-1A / ANSI/ASNT CP-189, with Level III oversight of procedures and interpretation. UT Quality USA is a union operation.
