Refineries & petrochemical.Union nondestructive testing and weld inspection, UT Quality USA.

Refinery and petrochemical work splits into two jobs: the new welding on a capital project or a turnaround, and the condition of what is already in the ground and in the rack. UT Quality USA covers both, with radiography, encoded ultrasonics and the four conventional methods, reported to the code the specification names.

What we inspect.

The scope UT Quality USA crews are asked for on this work.

Process & utility piping

New and replacement piping welds inspected by radiography or by encoded ultrasonics to ASME B31.3, with MT and PT for surface and near-surface flaws.

Pressure vessels & exchangers

Shell and head seams, nozzle and attachment welds, inspected to ASME Section VIII, with ultrasonic thickness readings where wall loss is the question.

In-service inspection support

Wall-thickness surveys, corrosion mapping and weld inspection feeding API 570 piping, API 510 vessel and API 653 tank programs run by the owner or their inspector.

Alloy verification (PMI)

Positive material identification confirming that the material in the line or the component is the material the specification calls for.

Methods, codes and crews.

Methods

Automated ultrasonic testing, phased array and TOFD, semi-automated ultrasonics, radiography by film, computed, digital and real-time methods, and the four conventional methods — magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and visual testing — plus positive material identification. UT Quality’s automated ultrasonic system is proprietary, designed and built in-house.

Codes and standards

Inspected and reported to the code your specification names: ASME B31.3 and Section VIII for construction, ASME Section IX for qualification, AWS D1.1 for structural steel, and inspection supporting API 570, API 510 and API 653 in-service programs.

How the work is staffed

Turnarounds are priced in hours. Encoded ultrasonics returns a result immediately and without the exclusion zone a radiographic shot imposes on a live unit, which matters when the scaffold is shared. Where radiography is required, digital and computed radiography cut the wait between shot and read.

Questions.

Can you avoid radiographic exclusion zones during a turnaround?

Where the specification permits a volumetric method other than radiography, encoded phased array or TOFD gives a permanent record without clearing the area, so adjacent trades keep working.

Do you support API 570 and API 510 programs?

Yes, as the NDT contractor: thickness surveys, corrosion mapping and weld inspection supplied to the owner or the authorized inspector running the program.

Do you inspect stainless and alloy systems?

Yes. Liquid penetrant and ultrasonic methods are used on austenitic stainless and alloy piping, with the technique qualified for the material, and PMI verifies the alloy itself.

Which conventional methods are available on site?

Magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and visual testing, from the same crews and the same written practice as the advanced methods.

Technicians are certified Level I, II and III to our written practice under ASNT SNT-TC-1A / ANSI/ASNT CP-189, with Level III oversight of procedures and interpretation. UT Quality USA is a union operation.
