UT Quality/UT Quality USA industriesIndustries/Storage tanks & terminals
A terminal is a tank farm plus a lot of piping. UT Quality USA inspects new tank welding, supplies the thickness and weld data that an API 653 in-service program runs on, and covers the manifold, loading and transfer piping around the tanks.
The scope UT Quality USA crews are asked for on this work.
Shell, annular and bottom welding on tanks built to API 650, and to API 620 where the tank is low-pressure or cryogenic, inspected by the methods the standard and the specification require.
Floor and shell ultrasonic thickness surveys, weld inspection and magnetic particle examination supplied to the API 653 inspector running the program.
Transfer, loading and manifold piping welds inspected to ASME B31.3 or the code the specification names, by radiography or encoded ultrasonics.
Stairs, platforms, pipe racks and supports inspected by MT, PT, UT and VT against AWS D1.1.
Automated ultrasonic testing, phased array and TOFD, semi-automated ultrasonics, radiography by film, computed, digital and real-time methods, and the four conventional methods — magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and visual testing — plus positive material identification. UT Quality’s automated ultrasonic system is proprietary, designed and built in-house.
Inspected and reported to the code your specification names: API 650 for welded storage tank construction, API 620 for low-pressure and cryogenic tanks, inspection supporting API 653 in-service programs, ASME B31.3 for terminal piping and AWS D1.1 for structural steel.
Tank work and piping work usually arrive on the same site at the same time, and splitting them across two contractors splits the records too. The same crews carry ultrasonic thickness, magnetic particle, penetrant, visual and radiographic capability, reported under one written practice.
UT Quality USA supplies the NDT — floor and shell thickness surveys, weld inspection, MT and PT. The API 653 evaluation and the fitness-for-service decision belong to the owner’s certified tank inspector.
Yes. Shell, annular and bottom welding on API 650 and API 620 tanks is inspected by the methods the standard and the specification require.
Ultrasonic thickness survey of the floor and the shell is within scope. The scan plan follows the program the owner’s inspector sets.
Yes. Transfer, loading and manifold piping is inspected on the same mobilization as the tank scope where the schedule allows.
Technicians are certified Level I, II and III to our written practice under ASNT SNT-TC-1A / ANSI/ASNT CP-189, with Level III oversight of procedures and interpretation. UT Quality USA is a union operation.
