UT Quality/UT Quality USA industriesIndustries/Power generation
Power plant construction and outage work is high-temperature, thick-section welding on a schedule measured against a return-to-service date. UT Quality USA inspects power and balance-of-plant piping, pressure equipment and structural steel with radiography, encoded ultrasonics and the conventional methods.
The scope UT Quality USA crews are asked for on this work.
High-energy steam, feedwater and condensate piping welds inspected to ASME B31.1, by radiography or by encoded ultrasonics where the specification allows it.
Fuel gas, cooling water, auxiliary and utility piping inspected to ASME B31.3 or the code the specification names.
Shell, head and nozzle welds on heat exchangers, drums and other pressure vessels inspected to ASME Section VIII.
Boiler and turbine building steel, pipe racks and supports inspected by MT, PT, UT and VT against AWS D1.1.
Automated ultrasonic testing, phased array and TOFD, semi-automated ultrasonics, radiography by film, computed, digital and real-time methods, and the four conventional methods — magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and visual testing — plus positive material identification. UT Quality’s automated ultrasonic system is proprietary, designed and built in-house.
Inspected and reported to the code your specification names: ASME B31.1 for power piping, ASME B31.3 for balance of plant, ASME Section VIII for pressure equipment, ASME Section IX for welder and procedure qualification, and AWS D1.1 for structural steel.
Thick-section, high-alloy welds are where inspection method decides outage length. Encoded ultrasonic inspection time stays close to flat as wall thickness climbs; radiographic exposure time does not, and in a congested plant a radiographic shot clears the area. Where radiography is required, digital and computed radiography shorten the wait between shot and read.
Yes. Steam, feedwater and condensate piping welds are inspected to ASME B31.1 by radiography or by encoded ultrasonics where the specification allows it.
Crews are staffed and shifted to the outage window. Contract models are described on the UT Quality USA page.
Acceptance is set by the governing code and the owner’s specification. Where a volumetric method other than radiography is permitted, encoded phased array or TOFD provides a permanent record without an exclusion zone.
Yes. Building steel, racks and supports are inspected against AWS D1.1 on the same mobilization.
Technicians are certified Level I, II and III to our written practice under ASNT SNT-TC-1A / ANSI/ASNT CP-189, with Level III oversight of procedures and interpretation. UT Quality USA is a union operation.
