UT Quality/UT Quality USA industriesIndustries/Gas distribution
Distribution work is short welds in tight, populated right-of-way, usually on a permit clock. UT Quality USA inspects steel main, service and station welding with radiography and the conventional methods, to API 1104 and ASME B31.8, and reports it in a form the operator’s program can absorb.
The scope UT Quality USA crews are asked for on this work.
Girth, branch and tie-in welds on steel mains and service lines, inspected to API 1104 by radiography or by the method the specification names.
Station piping, headers, valve assemblies and supports, inspected by radiography and by the conventional methods.
Welds on main replacement, relocation and betterment programs, inspected and reported weld by weld.
Magnetic particle, liquid penetrant and visual testing where the specification calls for surface examination rather than a volumetric method.
Automated ultrasonic testing, phased array and TOFD, semi-automated ultrasonics, radiography by film, computed, digital and real-time methods, and the four conventional methods — magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic and visual testing — plus positive material identification. UT Quality’s automated ultrasonic system is proprietary, designed and built in-house.
Inspected and reported to the code your specification names: API 1104 for girth welds, ASME B31.8 for the gas piping system, and the federal gas pipeline safety regulations at 49 CFR Part 192 governing the operator’s program.
Distribution jobs are small, numerous and inside the public right-of-way, so the useful qualities are a crew that can be on site when the ditch is open and records that reconcile cleanly against the operator’s weld map. Radiographic work in populated areas is run under the exclusion controls the site requires.
Yes. Girth, branch and tie-in welds on steel mains and services are inspected to API 1104 by radiography or the specified method. Polyethylene fusion joints are not a nondestructive weld inspection scope.
Yes, under the operator’s permit and exclusion requirements, which govern radiographic work in populated areas.
Weld-by-weld reporting to our written practice and to the code the specification names, in a form that reconciles against the operator’s weld map.
Yes. Station piping, headers, valve assemblies and supports are within scope.
Technicians are certified Level I, II and III to our written practice under ASNT SNT-TC-1A / ANSI/ASNT CP-189, with Level III oversight of procedures and interpretation. UT Quality USA is a union operation.
